Light up the Darkness

Matthew 5:14-16 talks about being the light of the world.  The intended purpose of a lamp is to enable people to see (physically).  I think part of God’s intended purpose for us is to enable others to see (spiritually).  People may not have any frame of reference or ideas about God without believers in their lives.  We need to “let our light shine before men,” we need to not be falsely humble but instead boldly go and proclaim God’s word as we serve, because in this way others will see the Lord through our good deeds.  We also shouldn’t be arrogant about our actions, or judge people based on how many good works they do.  We should do good deeds so our light will shine and people will be able to see spiritually.  I like the way Bob Marley put it:  “The people who are making the world worse never take a day off, why should I?  Light up the darkness!”
