Let God’s Glory Shine

“Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
Psalm 34:5

When we are ashamed, we put our heads down, we hide our face. When we know where we want to go, we look at the ground as we go there. When we do this, we are missing out on much of the life that God has for us. He has taken our shame away, so we no longer should feel ashamed. Rather, we should lift our eyes to Heaven as we look to God for guidance.  With our heads up following Jesus, we are no longer looking at the ground; our faces are no longer hidden. Now, in this posture, God’s glory can shine out for all to see.

We are made in God’s image, and so there is glory in each of us.  I think the best example of that is that we are constantly creating things.  “In the beginning, God created…” Unfortunately, whether we do it to ourselves or someone has done it to us, our glory has been veiled at some point. Instead of holding in the glory God has placed in us, or being afraid to try something new, or being worried about what others will think, we should let it out and thereby glorify God. As we unveil this glory, beauty is unleashed. As we step out in faith instead of following the “safe” path, beauty is unleashed. As we use our God-given gifts, beauty is unleashed.

What is a key quality of beauty? The first thing that comes to mind is that it catches your attention. Others will see the beauty being unleashed and God’s glory therein. It inspires others to unveil their own glory and thus return that previously locked-up glory to God. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl, right? Let his glory shine!

Through our music, through our insights, through our prayers — as we look to Him for inspiration, our faces will be radiant and void of shame.  As the kids’ song says, “this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!”
